Tight Jeans
Tight Jeans is a short film written and directed by Destiny Ekaragha and is about three boys who start talking about someone's jeans while waiting for their friend.
Mise-en-scene works well within the film to create a realistic and authentic setting and storyline. The film is set in Lewisham as we see the market and then cut to these council estates where the boys are sitting. The boys stand out and we focus on them as they are placed in the centre of the frame, each wearing brightly coloured jumpers and outfits.
The walking across of the white man in the skinny jeans starts the focus point of the conversation which then develops into expressing a more meaningful subtext of slavery of black people and how life originated from Africa. Dialogue is very important within the film as it cleverly displays the film's true meaning behind a façade of other words. The film also uses comedic techniques to convey the messages and create authenticity in representing how friends talk to each other about meaningful topics of conversation.
The film ends in a comedic way, tying it to the start and making it feel complete through a similar question about a white man's outfit. Overall, the film heavily uses comedy and setting to create authenticity represent a real-life conversation about real-life differences between different races and groups, while managing to still keep the dialogue light funny.
